Wyn Evans team put in a professional performance in unbelievable conditions to beat league leaders Afan Lido 4-1 in Reserve Division West at the Marston Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
In one of the hardest jobs at any club manager Evans is working wonders at the helm of the team trying to mix experience and youth while also providing a platform for returning first team players.
With only one defeat at Pontardawe this win now puts them joint second with Swans Uni and one point behind leaders Lido with two games in hand.
On an excellent surface considering the effects of storm Brian the reds played into a gale force wind first half and put in an incredible defensive team display that provided the platform for the win.
The wind was so forceful that keeper Stef Rogers goal kicks were needed to be defended by his own team mates but they done it superbly with Joel Healey and Josh Cockings immense in the centre along with the midfield trio of Alex Brayley, Mike Walsh and Kristian James who put in a tireless shift to provide the shield needed in the middle of the park.
With the hosts enjoying most of the possession stats the Reds best option was to try and defend in numbers and counter attack with the huge frame of Mark Tancock often the best outlet.
The heroic first half display would have seen Evans ecstatic with the score goalless at half time but it was to read even better after a corner from Mike Walsh on the stroke of half time deceived everyone and Billy Timothy chested in on the goal line for a 1-0 half time lead.
The second half saw the Ferry look to strike while the poker was hot with the wind now in their favour and Mark Tancock poked home from close range to extend the deficit within ten minutes of the restart.
Tancock had a chance for his second from the spot ten minutes later but the Lido keeper done well to save, another blatant penalty was turned down before the referee did point to the spot for another on 75 minutes, this time Walsh took control of the matter to stroke home for 3-0.
Evans introduced the returning Lloyd Jones, Will Davies and Nicky Manca from the bench before the excellent Kristian James scored direct from a corner for 4-0.
Seconds later the Lido got a consolation goal before full time in what was a very satisfying performance and result for all involved.
M.O.M- MIKE WALSH- rolling back the years in central midfield and his corners caused problems all game.
