The Reds won their second pre-season friendly and retained The Malcolm Judd Memorial Trophy at Llandarcy Academy of Sport against Ynysygerwn on Friday evening.

Carl Shaw was without Conah McFenton, Daniel Kingdom, Scott Tomlinson, Warren Hudson and Steve Davey but was able to test his strength in depth as well as keep bedding in the new signings for the season ahead.

Luke Probert was in goals on his return from holiday with Cam Harris getting his first start since his move from Pontardawe, also Gareth Jones was given his first minutes of pre-season with Tyler Brock rested on the bench.

Shaw tested three at the back for the first half with Ian Hillier, Lee Bevan and Luke Harris forming the three with Lukes brother Cam and Luke Sylvester wing backs, a midfield trio of Liam Hughes, Steve Hughes and Rory Healey sat behind new signing Gavin Jones and forward Gareth Jones.

In an even first half hour both sides cancelled each other out in a battle for supremacy and both keepers were called into action but only to make comfortable saves.

The deadlock was broke just before the interval though with the impressive Gav Jones finishing sublimely from with a low drive from the edge of the area for the 1-0 half time lead.

Changes for both sides at half time disrupted the flow of the game slightly before Ynys equalised when new defensive signing Adam Robbins reacted from a corner kick to show superb technique to finish past Probert from 10 yards.

This seemed to give the Reds the push they needed to go up a gear and started to dominate the latter half hour and again took the lead this time Gav Jones was the creator laying off to substitute Brock who finished with a lob over keeper Simon Cole.

Further goals were scored by Gav Jones again after Rory Healey threaded him in before Healey himself settled the result close to the death.

Next up is Llanelli Town at Stebonheath Park 2.30pm on Saturday July 28th.
