Briton Ferry Llansawel progressed to round two of the JD Welsh Cup with a hard fought 1-0 win over Caerau Ely.

The winning goal from full back Daniel Kingdom (pictured) was a worthy winner, a great curling right foot shot from outside the box in the first half.

Manager Carl Shaw give new signing from Llanelli Rob Thomas his first start in the centre of midfield and the decision heralded a man of the match display hardly outting a foot wrong in the middle of the park alongside captain Rory Healey.

The visitors give a very good account of themselves and look a much better team than the side that got relegated from Division One last season and Craig Sampson's side asked questions from the Reds with Conah McFenton pulling off two good saves during the first half.

Tyler Brock and Steve Davey were a big threat in the second period for Sawel but the second goal didnt come but it was an excellent defensive display again limiting the visitors to long shots in the second period.

The draw was made for Round Two on Monday morning and the Reds will travel to play Division Three outfit Treharris Western on Saturday November 10th at their new ground Parc Taff Bargoed.
