Mike Rutherfords Under 18s's gained a valuable victory against the team closest to them in the West Wales League by beating Sandfields Utd 2-1 at Llandarcy Academy on Sunday lunch time.
In what has been a superb start for the newly formed team this season their opponents to date had been by far the toughest league game they had played, narrowly beating them 2-1 at the Old Road in the first game of the season.
The management shuffled the pack with Luke Mildenhall rested to the bench against his former team in a 3-5-2 formation, a solid back three of Tom Ware, Daniel Roberts and captain Tom Morgan sat in front of goalkeeper Cam Boe, a midfield three of Dan Llewelyn, Joe Dyer and Cam Williams were flanked by Joe Stiens and Aaron Walters with the little and large partnership of Evan Williams and top scorer Reuben Harris completing the starting eleven with a strong bench of Millard, Hopkins, Mildenhall, Islam and Burns.
The game started at the expected fast pace with both teams showing physicality around the park but in a very fair sporting manner.
In an end to end first half hour reds keeper Cam Boe pulled off some excellent saves before livewire forward Reuben Harris give the visitors the lead with his twelfth league goal after a great assist from his strike partner Evan Williams for a 1-0 half time lead.
Sandfields got off to the best possible start after the interval though with a good finish bringing the teams level.
Then ten minutes later after substitute Luke Mildenhall was fouled a few yards inside the Sandfields half, centre back Dan Roberts produced a goal worthy of winning any game, hitting the free kick with his trusty left foot over the head of the Sandfields keeper from no less than 45 yards to send the away support into raptures.
A determined and resolute 20 minutes followed from Rutherfords players to see out what could be a massive three points come the end of season.
The win sees them maintain their 100% record and open the gap to five points with Dafen Welfare moving into second place, they visit the Old Road on December 17th for a 2pm kick off, but next up is the S & R trophies game at the Old Road this Sunday also a 2pm kick off.
M.O.M- Cam Boe- The goalkeeper made some vital saves in the first half to provide the platform for the win.
