Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies maintained their position at the top of the Welsh Womens League with a comfortable 7-2 victory over local rivals Llangyfelach on Sunday afternoon.
BFL started quickly and went close twice within the first 5 minutes with both Sophie Cardy and Becca Rees going close.
Despite their early dominance and lots of chances, it took until the 18th minute for the first goal when Rees crossed for Carys Wilkinson to give the reds the lead.
That goal opened helped settle the nerves and the reds added another three goals over the next 12 minutes with Wilkinson adding a second in the 25th minute with a fine curling effort and then Rees added two off her own, the first set up by Ela Roberts and the second via Wilkinson with a little help from a rebound off the post.
That gave the reds a 4-0 lead after just 30 minutes. They continued to press but went close again before the break, twice from the impressive Aimee Heath and once from Roberts.

In the second half the Ferry girls struggled to get their fluent passing game going and in the 53rd minute the visitors pulled a goal back with a fine effort from Bonnie Ridd from 25 yards.
The four-goal advantage was restored in the 61st minute when Rees crossed for Heath to grab a well-deserved goal.
In the 73rd minute the visitors were awarded what appeared to be a very soft penalty and Ridd converted her second of the game to make it 5-2.
The reds finished strongly with a great effort from 25 yards from Megan Kearle and Beth Kennedy adding a seventh following a good move involving Rees.

Star Player: Catrin Davies – Another impressive defensive performance from the youngster in her first season of senior football with her usual calm but no-nonsense approach to defending.
