The Bootroom with Carl Shaw

The Bootroom with Carl Shaw - Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC

We caught up with Briton Ferry Llansawel manager Carl Shaw on the eve of their first game back in Division One, here is what he had to say-

Hi Carl, How does it feel to be back in Division One with the club?

It feels great especially after the way we were relegated but that is in the past now and we have got to make sure we are not in that position again. The club and the players all worked hard last season to get us back up and we have to work harder now to stay there.

How do you feel about how pre-season has gone?

Yes we have had a good pre-season, it helped that we have kept nearly all of last seasons squad and also added a couple of new faces who have fitted in quickly and I feel we are ready to go. The boys have worked very hard and we have varied our training to make sure we are ready to go come Saturday.

What would make you happy come the end of the season?

Firstly and foremost that we are still in the division! I would be happy to know we have competed all season and played the way I know we can and if we do that we will be ok. A nice run in the Welsh Cup would be welcome and maybe a little trip up to North Wales so the boys can have new experiences! Let's just see where the season takes us and enjoy it!

Finally, a tough start in the league playing both our fellow promotion teams in Cwmamman and Llanelli. Although no easy games who do you see amongst the league favourites?

I agree there will be no easy games this season, I don't think I have seen the division so strong in many years! The first two are going to be very difficult and we had very good games against both last season where we beat and lost to Cwmamman and drew and lost to Llanelli and our aim will be to pick up points early doors. I think the season will see a very open league with everyone capable of beating each other. I do expect to see Llanelli, Goytre FC, Penybont, Haverfordwest and Port Talbot challenging come the end of the season but any team could win it, one thing for sure it's going to be a very exciting season and it's great to be back!

The Reds start their campaign at Grenig Park, Cwmamman tomorrow kick off 2.30pm and we wish Carl, Ray and all the squad the best of luck for tomorrow and the season ahead!
