Caerphilly Castle Ladies v BFL Ladies – Welsh Women’s League (Sun 15th April)

Briton Ferry Llansawel travelled to face Caerphilly Castle on Sunday in their third game against them in just over a month, this time in the league. The reds again ran out convincing winners with a 10-1 victory. After a period of early pressure Aimee Heath chipped just over the bar in the 6th minute before the reds took the lead in the 8th minute following a long kick from keeper Jess Garlick which saw Renee Day control the ball well before beating the last defender and chipping over the outcoming keeper. In the 21st minute in was 2-0 with Lowri Ridings playing the ball forward which was headed on by Lucy Powell into the path of the impressive Megan Kearle who rounded the keeper and finished. A minute later it was 3-0 with the best goal of the game with a move which involved five players before Powell finished. Four minutes later the reds got another when Carys Wilkinson carried the ball out of defence before feeding Kearle on the left and she put in a great ball for Day to have a tap in. To their credit Caerphilly kept going and in the 34th minute when Wilkinson was adjudged to have brought down the Caerphilly striker which saw her booked. The penalty was well taken giving Garlick no chance and reduced the arrears to 4-1.

BFL started the second half really strongly and in the 50th minute Ridings won the ball well in midfield before playing a great ball through to Day who completed her hat-trick by slotting it into the bottom corner. Two minutes later it was 6-1 with Kearle firing in from the left edge of the area. Three minutes later Kearle completed her hat-trick following a good ball from Day to set her free down the left. The reds continued to push forward and in the 59th minute Heath got herself on the scoresheet with a good finish from 10 yards out. Midway through the half Ridings won a good header in the centre of the field with Powell picking up the ball before playing in Kearle for a great finish and her fourth of the game. Three minutes later the reds reached double figures when Day was the provider for Becca Rees to make it 10-1. BFL continued to dominate a possession but were unable to add to the score with a mixture of poor finishing and some good saves from the Caerphilly keeper.
