BFL Ladies v Barry Town Ladies – 29th April 2018
Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies came out on top in a closely fought Welsh Women’s League fixture against Barry Town on Sunday at Old Road. The early stages of the game were tight with neither side able to get control of the game. However, it was the reds who came close to threatening a goal with a few shots which went wide of the target. It was the visitors who opened the scoring though in the 27th minute after Ela Roberts tripped their striker inside the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and the penalty was well dispatched to give Barry a 1-0 lead.

BFL came out with much more purpose in the second half and got themselves on the front foot although the visitors defended resolutely. It the 63rd minute the scores were level when a Lucy Powell corner was headed clear by a Barry defender but only as far as Ferry centre back Catrin Davies who struck an unstoppable half volley into the roof of the net. Two minutes later the reds were ahead from another Powell corner with captain Lowri Ridings this time meeting the corner with a great header. The reds were now starting to control the game and in the 80th minute it was 3-1 following good work from substitute Aimee Heath down the left who crossed for Powell to finish from close range. However, any thoughts that the game was won were soon dispelled by the visitors who scored a second goal on 83 minutes from a well struck free kick. The reds were able to see out the remainder of the game though to claim the three points that extends their lead at the top of the table with 3 games remaining. Next up is a visit to Aberystwyth next Sunday.
