The Ferry dominated the early exchanges, keeping possession for long periods and creating chances at will with the visitors relying solely on the counter attack in their efforts to breach the home defence. A combination of some good saves from Gareth Williams in the Town goal, narrow off-side decisions and close misses should have resulted in the hosts going ahead much earlier than they actually. The breakthrough came when a good pass from Carl Harris found Richard Evans inside the visitors box and although his initial shot was saved he calmly slotted home the rebound to make it 1 – 0. Caldicot hang on under a barrage of attacks, occasionally breaking away to create chances that rarely threatened Luke Probert in the Ferry goal.
A good run by Steve Davey down the right wing was ended with a deliberate trip just one yard outside the box. Both sets of players jostled for position in the box in anticipation of the free kick but Ferry captain Dan Kingdom had second thoughts and his excellent curling free kick made it 2-0.
Another good pass from Dan Thomas split the Town defence and left Richard Evans one-on-one with the Caldicot keeper who subsequently tripped Evans after being passed by the quick Ferry forward leaving the referee no choice but to award a penalty. Caldicot’s prospects of getting anything from this game imploded when the referee showed the offending keeper a straight red card. Richard Evans picked himself up to take the spot kick but his tame effort was easily saved by the substitute keeper only for Steve Davey to react first and slot the rebound in from six yards.
The pressure continued to mount and the disadvantage of being down to ten men did not help matters for Caldicot who found a now rampant Ferry difficult to contain and it was not long before the Ferry made it four when a Steve Davey corner found Owain Williams who’s powerful header gave him his first goal of the season.
The second half and with nothing to lose Caldicot made a few changes which gave them a minor foothold in the game but much to their frustration they once again failed to really trouble the home goal. The Ferry made a couple of changes introducing the lightening quick duo of Gavin Jones and Rory Healey who began dominate down each flank creating numerous chances. Further goals from Ross Davies and the impressive Gavin Jones completed the scoring to leave Ferry hitting six for the second successive Saturday.
Ferry will now welcome Division One league leaders Cambrian and Clydach in the 3rd third round on Saturday 12th November 2011.
